A duck or the like struggling through water filled with thick oil. Ths was started around last summer, when a ship named Full City full of oil went aground not so far from where I live. I think most of the oil poured into the water along the coast on a stretch so far it damaged over 20 or so bird reservations. It was a very vulnerable time for the birds, a lot of them died because of it, or at the very least suffered greatly. It will also take several years to get everything cleaned up, it might never be the same... The sad thing is, even though the ship wasn't Norwegian, oil is still one of the major reasons why I have such a nice life. And... it sucks knowing.

I'd forgotten that I had this piece lying around unfinished until a couple of days ago when the trials against the captain of the ship started. Finished it this afternoon. It was painted with acrylics on paper I dyed myself. I experimented a little bit with alcohol to get some new effects (you should have seen my mother's face when I told her I'd stolen som Finnish Vodka...) I used some photos from newspapers as reference, if I remember correctly, as well as some pictures of a duck's wing.

I hope nature and its wildlife will recover.

Wow, what impressive illustration that you have here! It truly portrays a sea bird in huge struggle when oil is everywhere, especially in the open waters!

I submitted your photo to my group, #SaveWildCetaceans, and it will be awaiting your approval before it is displayed in the group gallery. And I will send you an invite to be a member of my group as well!

:)

Such a dark and gritty piece. I feel dirty just looking at it. Oil is a very sad thing to rely on, knowing all the death it has caused and will cause in the future.
